1945-1946 The Kenworth T30 was also built as a tractor for Ordnance tests. It used the same power train found in the cargo model, and it could handle a gross combined weight of 90,000 pounds as a tractor. Actually, both trucks were built so a fifth wheel or body would be interchangeable. The exchange of the cargo body for the fifth wheel brought the net weight of the tractor down to 33,390 pounds, and it had an angle of approach of 40°, of departure 45°. Both T30s carried 150 gallons of gasoline which gave them a 330 mile range under load. The fording depth was an impressive 72 inches for both models (but they were 128 inches high), both mounted a 60,000 pound capacity amidship winch, and both were built in late 1945. (TM)

In 1947,
Kenworth engineers designed the innovative Kenworth 853 – a special-purpose truck used by the Arabian-American Oil Company (ARAMCO) to build the Trans-Arabian Pipeline, then the world’s largest construction project. The Kenworth 853, which had to withstand temperatures of up to 135 degrees Fahrenheit in the Saudi Arabian desert, featured a 64,000-pound capacity, side-by-side radiators, 6-wheel drive, a 300-gallon fuel capacity and a 318-hp engine.

Prime Mover: Transporter, heavy artillery T10, consisting of truck M249 (front) and M250 (rear), and Carriage M30. Supervillain secret weapons by order of Congress produced the 280mm M65 "Atomic Cannon", affectionately called Atomic Annie, which rolled off the assembly line on October 15th, 1952. Truly, the M65 was the strangest weapon that the Ordnance Corps of the Department of the Army ever produced. It filled an important deterrence role in the tactical nuclear arsenal of continental Europe when it was deployed in 1957 with the 7th Army’s' 3rd Armoured Division by way of attached units from V Corps, serving in West Germany. A total of twenty cannons were built. Of those, about ten to sixteen where deployed. The M65 remained in service until 1963

Close cooperation with the Detroit Arsenal in the 50s allowed "Kenworth" constantly receive government orders to create experienced heavy machinery. So in 1950-51 arsenal workshops were built the first 15 -ton tank trucks ХМ194Е4 8x8 in several versions. For finishing and modernization option ХМ194E2 was referred to "Kenworth" , where in 1955 there were tractors and XMM194E3 XM194E4 with promising time for multi-fuel engines "Continental" air-cooled fuel-injected , mounted behind the cab , as well as with hydromechanical 3 - speed gearbox Allison and 25 -inch wheels.

1960 - 1970
Two Kenworth Model 522 were built to US Army specifications in 1960 and the lightest of the two was designated the XM523. It used a turbocharged Cummings Model NT-380 diesel engine coupled to a Spicer 8051-B transmission and a three speed Spicer 8031-K transfer box giving a total of 15 gears.
The XM523 series was the result of a requirement during the 1970s for a new heavy equipment transporter. Unusually the first two vehicles were built by Kenworth with International Harvester proving the third. Due to use of commercial components the vehicles were rather high and, eventually none of them were accepted for service.

“Walter” is its name, and it’s a behemoth of a truck. A 1978 Kenworth 953 – a six-wheel drive conventional capable of hauling loads in excess of 160,000 pounds. It’s a truck with more than 2 million miles under the hood; a truck that still moves oil rigs over the most treacherous off-road terrain the folks at B and Eckel's Transport can throw its way. “And it symbolizes why we run Kenworths,” said Darren Smith, fleet manager for the Bonnyville, Alberta-based trucking company (in photo). “Kenworths are tough. They’re durable, and at the end of their cycle with us, they can command a high resale value in excess of 20 percent more than a comparably spec’d truck.”
